Large Installations - Transition, 2006 - Departure End
DEPARTURE END
At the "destiny", or airport end, each bridge will have both a Sun (day, masculine, conscious) and Moon (night, feminine, subconscious) opposite each other, made of tile, glass, and colored mirror. Their centers will be above the tops of the walls, making the pedestrian feel a bit smaller and perhaps more childlike, thus subtly giving them the feeling of moving upward, to be absorbed into the firmament. Concentric Space Lines also radiate periodically from them.
Each of the celestial shapes will have one of 4 categories of small, random, stylized confetti-like objects surrounding them, each symbolizing either Air (streamers, clouds, and balloons), Earth (geometric solids), Fire (star, lightning, and flame shapes), and Water (fish, raindrop, and wave shapes).
Energetically, each traveler begins their voyage with a different combination of emphases. Some have what I will call a Solar bias — directed, focused, and organized; some have a more dancelike, flowing, freeform approach. And each will interject their own mix of the Four Elements into the meaning of their trip — although all of the 4 sets of confetti provide a festive, celebratory sendoff.
