Large Installations - Jester Estates Community Center, 1997
This community-built playscape for a west Austin homeowners' association was built in 1997 and located next to their clubhouse, pool, and tennis court complex. Nestled among trees on a gentle hill country slope, as well as revitalizing an existing play structure that had been installed for smaller children, the playground terraces down the hill in sections.
Starting from the top you'll find a playhouse with "gingerbread" roof with various swings, a counter, musical instruments, overhead ladder, and sand play. Nearby is a beautiful large mural painted by one of the volunteers. Supported by some trees is a large tire swing, while farther on down is a large tire and earth hill with an underground room, counter, and vertical tube climber.
Below and behind the hill rises a fort complex surrounded by tire cliffs, a tree-supported tire climber with spiral tube slide, and a chain monkey bridge. The fort's ground level contains musical instruments and a crazy mirror. Coming off the side of the hill is a cableglide, and over in the nearby woods is a small tree platform that can be reached via the tire climber.
